A program of Chamber Music America ( http://chambermusic.org/ ), the Doris Duke Jazz Ensembles Project New Works: Creation and Presentation Program provides funds to composerled jazz ensembles for the creation and presentation of original music in the jazz idiom. The program is funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation ( http://www.ddcf.org).
The program supports the creation and performance of new compositions by established ensembles with a documented performance history. The program also recognizes ensemble members and their individual and collective contributions to the compositional process. Professional jazz ensembles that are led by a composer/performer or are cooperatively run are eligible.
Only one member of an ensemble may be the designated composer on an application. To be eligible, the ensemble must be an organization level member of Chamber Music America (membership must be paid by the time of application and grant recipients must maintain their CMA member- ship for the duration of the grant period); perform original music that includes improvisation as an integral aspect of its composition and performance; have a demonstrated and documented history of performing together with an ongoing core of musicians; have given a minimum of ten public performances within the past two years; range in size from two to ten members; and be based in the U.S. The composer must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Grants of up to $15,000 each are available for ensembles ranging from two to ten members.

Rasmuson Foundation of Alaska Announces New Deadline for Individual Artist Fellowship and Distinguished Artist Award
Deadline: March 1, 2007
The Rasmuson Foundation ( http://www.rasmuson.org), which works to promote a better life for all Alaskans, has announced March 1, 2007, as the new postmark deadline to apply for an Individual Artist Fellowship or Distinguished Artist Award. This deadline replaces the September 1 deadline. Artists that are considering applying for a Rasmuson Individual Artist Award should also note that revised guidelines and application forms are available on the Rasmuson Web site. Applicants should also note the change in work sample require- ments. The foundation is no longer accepting slides, cassette tapes, or media in a VHS format. The work sample specifications for digital photographs, audio CDs, and DVDs are all detailed in the revised application form. The Fellowship Awards are offered annually on a rotating basis by artistic discipline. Only mid-career or mature artists work- ing in choreography, folk and traditional, crafts, literary, or performance art disciplines are eligible to apply for a 2007 Fellowship Award. Media, multidiscipline/new genre, music compo- sition, and visual artists may apply next year by the March 1, 2008, deadline. Distinguished Artist applications are invited from mature, established artists working in any genre. Artists may also be nominated for this honor. Mature artists are those who have created an extensive independent body of work representing a high aesthetic level of artistic ability and creativity. Project Award deadlines will continue to be March 1, 2007, and September 1, 2007. Artists working in any artistic discipline, at any stage of their artistic career, may apply for a Project Award.
