Nominations Invited for Union Square Arts Award
Deadline: February 28, 2007

The Union Square Awards ( http://www.unionsquareawards.org/ ) are annual awards made to grassroots organizations working in New York City. Established in 2006, the Union Square Arts Award recognizes arts organizations working with youth and families in low-income communities throughout New York City in ongoing, innovative, and creative ways. All artistic disciplines -- dance, theater, music, visual arts, film, media arts, and creative writing -- are eli- gible. The goal is to identify arts projects and organizations making a significant impact and contribution to the lives of participants and their communities.

Grants will range from $25,000 to $50,000 each. Candidates are identified through a nomination process. Anyone familiar with an organization's work may submit a nomination detailing the reasons why the organization should be considered for an award. Nominations may be made online, by mail, or fax.

Princess Grace Foundation-USA Announces Guidelines for Theater and Playwriting Awards
Deadline: March 31, 2007

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA ( http://www.pgfusa.org/ ) has announced the guidelines for its Theater and Playwriting Awards programs. The Theater Awards program includes 1) scholarships for tuition assistance for students entering their final year of study at an accredited nonprofit school located in the United States; 2) apprenticeships for salary assistance at a nonprofit theater company for an individual artist who is "learning the trade" under the mentorship of a skilled staff person; and 3) fellow- ships for salary assistance at a nonprofit theater company for an individual artist who has a substantial relationship with the nominating company.

Grants are commensurate with salary/tuition requirements, and generally range from $3,000 to $25,000. Companies receiving apprenticeships and fellowships will be awarded a small grant to be used for general operating expenses. Actors, directors, set designers, costume designers, lighting designers, and sound designers are eligible. Applicants must be nominated by their respective dean/department chairs or artistic directors.

The Playwriting Awards program provides one playwright with a fellowship that covers residency (including transportation costs) at New Dramatists ( http://www.newdramatists.org/ ); complete representation and publication by Samuel French, Inc. ( http://samuelfrench.com/store/ ); and a grant in the amount of $7,500.

Eligible playwrights must not have had any professional productions. Development opportunities such as readings, workshops, and Equity showcases are admissible. All applicants must be U.S. citizens or have obtained permanent residency status. Scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships must be completed in the United States. Visit the Princess Grace Foundation-USA Web site for complete program guidelines, application materials, and an FAQ.

Thank you for providing the information about the Princess Grace Awards. There are very few scholarships, grants, apprenticeships and fellowships that are provided for emerging talent and this is one of the few arts organizations that help artists with their training and development.
