February is here and with the new month, it's time to begin a new creative gathering process. As I mentioned in January, we're spending the next three months "filling the well" - picking up useful pieces, random ideas, inspirations and interests that will help us later in the year as we start to unify those pieces into a whole.
January was spent exploring, becoming a mini-expert on, a country that may or may not be related to our current work. February will be spent doing something similiar. We're using our "mini-expert" method again, only this time, we're going to become a mini-expert on two other artists.
I've heard the phrase "borrow genius" and I love the idea of it. That we can borrow from the genius of those that have come before us. This month, I would like us to figure out who those people might be.
TODAY'S CREATIVITY CHALLENGE:
Pick one artist you admire and consider to be a genius WHO WORKED IN YOUR FIELD. If you're a painter, pick a painter, if you're a writer pick a writer, etc.
Now pick another artist you also admire and consider to be a genius WHO WORKED IN A MEDIUM OTHER THAN THE ONE YOU EMPLOY. If you're a composer, pick a sculptor, if you're a photographer, pick a dancer, etc.
All you have to do today is identify the two people that most interest you. That's it.
