Manhattan Theatre Club/ Dentyne Playwrighting Contest

DEADLINE: March 9

Plays must be on the theme of "maintaining relationships in the age of technology", have no more than 2 characters, and be no more than 10 pages long. Playwrights whose work has received a previous production and received compensation for that work are ineligible. Winner will have his/her play professionally staged in NYC in May 2009 and will receive a $7,500 prize.

Amy & Eric Burger Essays On Theatre Competition

DEADLINE: March 13

$2,500 prize for the best essay written in English on any aspect of drama or the theatre. One submission per writer, essay must be unpublished and between 1,800 and 7,500 words in length. Send two copies of the essay; do not identify the author on the essay; attach a cover letter with the title of the essay and the author's name, address, phone number, and e-mail address; mail first class with sufficient postage .

Dylan Days One Act Contest

DEADLINE: March 15

All submissions should be plays that have not been produced in any other theatres. They can be of any genre except musicals, or puppet theatre. Scripts should be between 30 and 60 minutes in length, and contain 3-6 characters.

American Theatre's Bay Area Commissioning Fund

DEADLINE: March 23

Four participating writers will be selected in both of the theatrical seasons 2008–09 and 2009–10. Each selected writer will be expected to complete three articles and will receive $2,500 over the course of his or her affiliation. This program is only open to San Francisco Bay Area residents.

Princess Grace Awards

DEADLINE: March 31

A national program dedicated to identifying and assisting emerging theater, dance and film artists who are at the outset of their careers or at early stages of professional development. This mission is accomplished in playwriting through a residency program at New Dramatists, Inc..
