WORST Job Posting of the Week
Susan
WORST JOB OF THE WEEK
CurveWire.com is a new Los Angeles based internet startup that provides hyper-local blogs and information about what is going on in Los Angeles.
BECAUSE THAT'S NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE.
The publication will be expanding to other cities in the future, but the first city is Los Angeles. We are looking for dedicated urbanites who want to blog about anything, literally anything, going on in Los Angeles.
BECAUSE WE FIND THAT ALL THIS SUCCESSFUL NICHE MARKETING THAT EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING HAS JUST BEEN, WELL, TOO SUCCESSFUL.
We are also looking for bloggers who want to blog about the following topics: general news, politics & society, entertainment, fashion, the arts, nightlife & food and events. You can blog about what you want, when you want and from wherever you want.
REALLY, WE CAN? I THOUGHT THERE WERE LIMITS AS TO THE CONTENT OF WHAT I'M ALLOWED TO POST ON THE INTERNET.
The position is unpaid
QUELLE SURPRISE.
and CurveWire is simply a fun and informative new local application that is meant to make Los Angeles a better place by allowing users to blog about it.
BECAUSE LOS ANGELES TOTALLY SUCKS UNLESS SOMEONE'S BLOGGING ABOUT IT.
Past writing experience is important, but it’s not required;
I MEAN, ANY IDIOT CAN PUT TOGETHER A SENTENCE OR TWO SO YOU KNOW, APPLY. IT'LL BE AWESOME.
...rather, a passionate interest in Los Angeles and what is going on in the city that is in addition to the local newspaper is required.
AS IF ANYONE READS THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER.
Potential bloggers should express their interest by contacting CurveWire at curvewire@hotmail.com and express what topic you are interested in blogging about from the list above or if you want to blog about general matters outside of the list above, simply say so.
REALLY, WE'LL TAKE ANYTHING, WE'RE DESPERATE.
If you have a resume that is readily available, please forward as well, but a resume is not required.
LIKE WE SAID, DESPERATE.

The program provides grants of up to $3,500 to support the work of unincorporated groups, burgeoning art venues and gathering spaces, publications, collectives, events, and more.
Guidelines and application materials are available at the Southern Exposure Web site.
PND - RFPs Sullivan Foundation Seeks Award Applications From Young Singers
The William Matheus Sullivan Musical Foundation seeks to identify talented young singers and help them develop professional careers through a program providing continuing financial support over a period of five years.
Following annual auditions in New York, the foundation provides a number of $10,000 cash awards to gifted singers in the early stages of professional careers, to be used for any career-related purpose. Winners may also receive role preparation assistance for a period of five years to help defray expenses incurred in musical, dramatic, vocal, and language coaching for specific professional engagements.
The foundation seeks exceptionally talented young singers who are taking first steps in professional careers. Applicants must be in the early stages of their careers, and have completed their academic training. They should have sung at least one engagement with a known opera company, symphony orchestra, or other organization utilizing full orchestral accompaniment, and must submit a copy of a contract or letter of intent for a future professional operatic engagement following the foundation's November auditions.
Guidelines and application are available at the Sullivan Foundation Web site.
PND - RFPs National Association of Latino Arts and Culture Fund for the Arts Offers Grants for Artists and Nonprofits
National Association of Latino Arts and Culture Fund for the Arts Offers Grants for Artists and Nonprofits
The NALAC Fund for the Arts is a field-advised grant program designed to help Latinos develop their creative talents and make lasting contributions to their communities and society as a whole. Launched in 2005 by the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture with major support from the Ford Foundation, the NFA provides financial resources to strengthen Latino small and mid-sized arts organizations and to support Latino artists in the creation of their work.
A "Latino arts organization" is defined as an organization whose mission is focused on Latino art and culture, whose executive or artistic director is Latino, and/or whose board of directors is comprised of at least 51 percent Latinos. Applicant organizations must have 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or have a fiscal sponsor with a 501(c)(3) status, must have been in existence for at least one fiscal year, must have an operating budget that does not exceed $1 million, and must be a member of NALAC. Eligible organizations may apply for grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 each to be used toward general operating support, the creation and presentation of artistic works, organizational capacity-building initiatives, and professional development.
A "Latino artist" is defined as a U.S.-based Latino artist working individually or as part of a Latino ensemble, arts collective, or community-based arts group in dance, interdisciplinary arts, literary arts, media arts, multidisciplinary arts, music, performance art, theater arts, or visual arts. Applicant artists must be at least 18 years of age, and must be a member of NALAC. Individual artist project grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 each may be used for creation, development, and presentation of work; professional or career development, equipment necessary for artistic production, or project research and travel.
In addition, a limited number of NFA Artist Fellowship Grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 each will be offered to support exemplary artists, and the NFA Master Artist Grant will recognize one Latino master artist with a grant ranging from $10,000 to $20,000.
The technical assistance period for this NFA grant cycle is open until August 16, 2010. Application materials are available at the NALAC Web site.
PND - RFPs Grants Available for Preservation and Promotion Projects in Blue Ridge National Heritage Area
The Blue Ridge National Heritage Area has announced its 2010 Heritage Grants Program, which will provide funding for projects that preserve and promote the heritage of Western North Carolina.
The program offers matching grants to provide and leverage funding for innovative projects across the region which preserve, protect, and promote the historical, cultural, and natural heritage of Western North Carolina while stimulating economic opportunity.
Grants are available for the preservation, interpretation, development, and promotion of heritage resources in five thematic areas — agricultural heritage, Cherokee heritage, craft heritage, music heritage, and natural heritage.
Nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, and units of state, local, and federally-recognized tribal governments serving the 25-county Blue Ridge National Heritage Area region are eligible to apply.
Regional or multi-county projects are eligible for a maximum grant award of $40,000. Regional or multi-county projects are defined as projects with activities (programs, events, presentations, fieldwork) and/or locations (sites, exhibit areas) in two or more counties of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area. All other projects are considered local projects and are eligible for a maximum grant award of $25,000. Applicants must provide at least an equal matching amount. The total pool of funding for the 2010 grant cycle is $338,000.
Guidelines are available at the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area Web site.

Panel, "Made in NY" Production Assistants: A Peer-to-Peer Discussion, New York City
Developed in partnership between the Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting and nonprofit Brooklyn Workforce Innovations (BWI), the “Made in NY” PA Training Program provides unemployed and low-income New Yorkers with four weeks of free, intensive training that prepares them to work on New York City sets and in production offices. Since its launch in 2006, more than 200 New Yorkers have been certified as “Made in NY” PAs and have worked on over 1,000 productions, including “30 Rock,” “Sesame Street,” “Gossip Girl,” Sex and the City, The Smurfs and Enchanted. Many graduates of the program have advanced to higher level positions in the locations and camera departments, among others.
“Made in NY” Production Assistants: A Peer-to-Peer Discussion will feature a panel of “Made in NY” PAs who will talk about their experiences working in the entertainment industry and the opportunities that they have received through their training. Representatives from BWI will also be on hand to answer questions about how to apply to the program.
“New York City is home to over 100,000 New Yorkers who make their living working behind the scenes,” said Commissioner Katherine Oliver. “Our office is committed to diversifying our local industry through workforce development programs, like the „Made in NY‟ PA Training Program, so that more women, people of color, and economically disadvantaged New Yorkers have access to new opportunities in film and television production.” For more information about these programs, visit nyc.gov/film.
