Association of Performing Arts Presenters Accepting Applications for Ensemble Theatre Travel Subsidy Grants
Deadline: April 16, 2007 T

he Association of Performing Arts Presenters (http://www.artspresenters.org/ ) is now accepting applications for the Ensemble Theatre Travel Subsidy Grants program. Travel Subsidy grants of up to $2,000 are available to artistic directors, producers, presenters, managers, and artists to see work by ensemble theaters that have initiated a dialogue with them about a long-term partnership or project. In addition, artistic, production, education, publicity, or marketing staff at ensemble theater companies are eligible for funds to visit a potential host theater or arts presenter in order to effectively prepare for an engagement at least six to twelve months in advance. Funds are also available to artistic directors of regional theaters for travel to attend the Under the Radar Festival and Symposium scheduled for the association's annual conference in New York in January 2008. Travel subsidies are available for travel within the United States and outside the United States, globally. The travel fund does not provide travel support for individuals whose primary purpose is to attend meetings, convenings or conferences, or to build an artist roster or for business development.

National Endowment for the Arts Invites Organizations to Participate in the Big Read
Deadline: April 12, 2007

The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts ( http://www.nea.gov/ ) in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services ( http://www.imls.gov/ ) and in cooperation with Arts Midwest ( http://www.artsmidwest.org/ ), is designed to restore reading to the center of American culture.

The Big Read provides citizens with the opportunity to read and discuss a single book within their communities. Each community event lasts approximately one month and includes a kick-off event to launch the program locally; major events devoted specifically to the book (panel discussions, author readings, etc.); events using the book as a point of departure (film screenings, theatrical readings, etc.); and book discussions in diverse locations and aimed at a wide range of audiences.

Approximately 120 organizations in communities of varying sizes across the United States will be chosen in this selection cycle to participate in the initiative from September through December 2007. Organizations selected to participate in The Big Read will receive a grant, financial support to attend a national orientation meeting, educational and promotional materials for distribution, and other materials and services.

Applicants may apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. The typical grant size will be between $10,000 and $15,000. Grants must be matched at least 1:1 with non-federal funds. Organizations applying to participate must have tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal revenue Code or be a division of state, local, or tribal government.

Eligible applicants include such organizations as literary centers, libraries, museums, colleges and universities, art centers, historical societies, arts councils, tribal governments, humanities councils, literary festivals, and arts organizations. Applicant organizations must partner with a library (if the applicant organization itself is not a library). K-12 schools and school districts, whether public or private, are ineligible to apply but are encouraged to participate as partners.

For additional information and application procedures, visit the Big Read Web site ( http://www.neabigread.org/ )

Open Society Institute Announces Call for Proposals: Moving Walls 14 Documentary Photography Exhibition
Deadline: July 6, 2007

The Open Society Institute ( http://www.soros.org/ ) invites photographers and artists to submit a proposal and completed body of work for consideration in the Moving Walls 14 group exhibition. Moving Walls is an annual documentary photography exhibition produced by OSI, a private operating and grantmaking foundation that works to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens. The exhibition series is an artistic interpretation of the obstacles -- e.g., political oppression, economic instability, and racism -- that society often erects and the struggles to tear those barriers down. Since its inception in 1998, Moving Walls has featured more than seventy photographers whose work address a variety of social justice and human rights issues that coincide with OSI's mission. The Open Society Institute encourages photographers to submit documentary work of national or international subjects that coincide with the issues and geographical areas that are principally of concern to OSI.

Visit the OSI Web site for complete program guidelines and application procedures. RFP Link: http://fconline.foundationcenter.org/pnd/10006500/soros
